15.04.2003 10:07:53
Federal Treasurer Peter Costello said today he was privileged to be able to go to Gallipoli for ANZAC Day.
Mr Costello said he had never been before but he particularly wanted to go to Gallipoli at a time of war.
"It`s customary for somebody from the government to be at Gallipoli, but from a personal point of view I`ve never been before," Mr Costello told Sydney radio 2UE.
"But I just thought at a time when Australian troops are in combat in Iraq, which is not far from Gallipoli actually ...
I just thought it was a wonderful privilege and opportunity to be at Gallipoli on ANZAC Day."
Mr Costello will later travel on to Paris to address a major conference organised by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark will also speak at the OECD Forum 2003: Grow, Develop and Prosper, on April 28 and 29.
